February 13 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm CST
Sepsis is a leading cause of hospital readmissions for nursing home residents transferred to the hospital, yet the early identification of sepsis in nursing homes is fraught with challenges and has not been well-studied. Until further research is available, how might we begin to tackle this problem?
- Learn what sepsis is, who is at risk and the signs and symptoms for early detection
- Review examples of sepsis screening tools commonly used in hospital settings
- Know what tools to use while understanding the limitations of sepsis screening tools in the nursing home population
- Understand the elements of evidence-based treatment for optimal outcomes
