Motivational Interviewing: Strategies for Tobacco Cessation and Management of Cardiovascular Health

It can be difficult for patients to change their behavior, even if they know a behavior isn’t healthy. Dr. Angela Pfammatter, a clinical health psychologist, will present a motivational interviewing approach to patient care when dealing with tobacco use and managing cardiovascular health. She will describe the process of behavior change, a framework for addressing health behaviors in the clinical setting, and some practical strategies providers can use to help patients overcome resistance. Participants will be able to discuss common barriers to behavior change and use collaborative strategies related to behavioral recommendations for patients.
