A Nursing Home Event: Staging and Identifying Pressure Injuries

Description:
Identifying the incorrect cause of a wound can delay healing, waste money or even result in a nursing home receiving a deficiency tag. Nancy Morgan, co-founder of the Wound Care Education Institute (wcei), will help nursing home staff identify the stages of pressure injuries and differentiate between pressure and other wounds including: moisture associated skin damage (MASD), diabetic foot ulcers, suspected deep-tissue injury or bruise and friction wounds.

Objectives:

  • Identify factors and characteristics needed to determine the cause of pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, mucosal pressure ulcers, and moisture-associated skin damage.
  • Discuss and use National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel staging of pressure injuries.

Audience:
Nursing home administrators, directors of nursing, treatment and staff nurses, certified nursing assistants, physical and occupational therapists and any nursing home staff involved in pressure injury prevention.
