CMS Hospitals Without Walls Program Expands Amidst Pandemic

A new CMS Acute Hospital Care At Home program expands upon regulatory flexibilities granted to hospitals at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospitals granted CMS waivers and following screening and care protocols will be eligible to treat 60 different acute conditions in home settings that normally require inpatient hospital admission, such as asthma, congestive heart failure, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The program is optional; however, CMS anticipates that patients may prefer to receive care in their homes, especially during localized COVID-19 surges. More
