Behavioral Health in Aging Populations (Behavioral Health Series – 4 of 5)
Approximately 7.5 million Americans aged 65 and older have a mental illness. This number is anticipated to double by 2030. Mental health has the ability to impact physical health; for example, people with conditions like heart disease have higher rates of depression. Older adults are often misdiagnosed and under-treated, which can result in poorer health outcomes and increased healthcare utilization, illness and mortality and caregiver stress. In this Telligen webinar recorded in April 2019, Denise Warren, MCC, LPC, explores strategies to help older adults at risk for behavioral health disorders and reviews examples of successful interventions.
