Infection Prevention Wins
Telligen recognizes our partners for their infection prevention efforts during International Infection Prevention Week!
- Sweeping new federal nursing home regulations have made infection prevention a big priority for long-term care (LTC) facilities in 2018. Genesis Medical Center and UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island created a seminar series for hospital infection preventionists to share their expertise with local LTCs.
- Lexington Square nursing home took action after a worrisome increase in antibiotic treatment for asymptomatic urinary tract infections (UTIs). Staff took their lead from clinical studies that have found antibiotic treatment for asymptomatic UTIs does not help, and can actually cause harm by contributing to antibiotic resistance.
- Coupling probiotics with antibiotic therapy led to a stunning drop in Clostridium difficile infections at Oak Trace nursing home, thanks to a close review of clinical studies by its infection preventionist.
- A smart mix of data tracking, staff education and improved procedures helped stop unnecessary urine cultures and antibiotic therapy for asymptomatic UTIs and better identify the residents that needed treatment at Oak Trace nursing home.
