Nursing Home Care - Resource

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires nursing homes to have a written infection control policy and a procedure outline that details “when and to whom possible incidents of communicable disease or infections should be reported.” In addition, nursing homes must also comply with the appropriate Illinois administrative codes. The Illinois long-term care community has expressed uncertainty about to whom and how to report these incidents. In this Telligen webinar recorded in September 2018, Telligen and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) representatives discuss the CMS 483.80 Infection Control regulation and applicable Illinois administrative code; identify the departments within IDPH to which nursing homes are to report possible incidents; and describe the IDPH role when an incident is reported.
